Are you:
  • A freshman striving to successfully navigate your first university-level composition course?
  • A senior determined to use what you learn in our technical writing course to get the edge needed to land your dream job?
  • A graduate teaching assistant intent on developing the kind of course content that will guarantee that your students learn how to write and have fun at the same time?
  • A member of the community interested in what we do to ensure that SIUC students gain effective and marketable writing skills?

You've come to the right place!

The Writing Studies program of the Department of English is designed to serve two distinct, yet blended, constituencies:  those who are pursuing undergraduate degrees at SIUC, and those who wish to become better writers.  Our instructors are dedicated to the common goal of providing optimal learning environments for diverse, energetic, and earnest groups of students.  We are also committed to implementing innovative and creative teaching methods -- including incorporation of technology inside and outside the classroom -- designed to strengthen writing, reading and analytical skills.

This site will carry important announcements regarding required writing courses -- so stay tuned for regular updates. We will also publicize upcoming events, recent awards, and other information related to writing in a university setting.

Any questions?  Contact Lisa J. McClure, Director of Writing Studies and Area Head for Rhetoric and Composition.  She may be reached at 618.453.6811, or via e-mail at lisam@siu.edu.
